Rose Tyler: The Idiot's Lantern Brooch and Ring Tutorial

Two posts in one day! I have another installment in my Rose Tyler cosplay tutorial for you today, this time tackling some of the smaller details.

BROOCH

Rose has a pale pink flower shaped brooch. I believe it is made of mother of pearl.

To make mine, I used a pink fabric flower, a pearly button, and a safety pin. I did not use the nail polish, but originally thought I would at the end to make my flower sparkle.

I started by disassembling my flower.

I put the two layers of petals back together, then put the button through the hole.

Then I put my safety pin through the loop on my button. I had to bend it a little so that the button would stay on: in other words, I wanted the button to be attached to the side of the safety pin it wouldn't fall off of.

I then hot glued the petals together, just for added support.

All done! (Yes, it was really that easy.)

RING

Rose's ring is essentially impossible to find pictures of. This is the best picture I could find:

I blew up the picture of the ring and it is clearly a large, pink circle. I think it may have a raised up design on it... a flower, maybe? It's really hard to say.

I shrugged at this point and decided to just make my own interpretation of the ring rather than attempt to make something 100% accurate when I couldn't find any information on the original.

I started with a large black button from my button jar.

Then I took some of my beloved jeweler's wire.

I threaded the wire through the button as I would if I were going to sew it to something with the wire.

I made a double loop while threading so that I'd be able to wear it comfortably.

Just to be on the safe side, I secured this with hot glue.

I filled in the button holes with glue, too.

Several coats of Americana Bubble Gum Pink later...

And one of my gloss...

And my ring was done!!

Well... almost. It needed a little sparkle.

I decided I liked the ring better with some glitter.

We're done with accessories now! All we have left is the wig, which I ordered last night, and the actual dress (and jacket and tights, but I'm grouping those together.)

  1. Dolly wants a dress like this. She thinks it would go well with her red hair. She has strange ideas. :) But I have to agree with her, the dress looks wonderful!
