As I may have mentioned before, I am an ENFP in the world of MBTI types. (If you don't know what that is, allow me to take you to http://www.personalitypage.com/ where you can learn all about the 16 types. It doesn't have a test, but there are lots of other tests out there that you can take.)
I love typing other people (or trying to guess what their type is based on time I've spent with them) and I especially love typing fictional characters. I am the best at identifying my own type, so that is what I've done here. With any fictional character, there is some room for interpretation on their personality. I have seen internet flame wars start because two people didn't agree on whether Elsa was INFJ or INTJ. It isn't worth that, people. Seriously. If you don't agree with one of my ENFPs here, channel Thumper.

It is fine if you disagree with me, but please express this nicely and give a reason why you think the character is another type. Thank you!
Without further ado: ENFPs. (These might include some spoilers about these characters, so don't read anybody who's story you don't already know.)

First up is Pinkie Pie, who just may be the most ENFP-like ENFP to ever hit the tv screen. Her semi-constant internal monologue and her *almost* unchangeable positive attitude combined with her spontaneous musical numbers make her a force of fun to be reckoned with. When she does have an off day, though, Pinkie can easily reclaim her smile and her curly hair as soon as she's cried it out and come up with a new solution.

Henry from ABC's Once Upon a Time is also an ENFP. According to Wikipedia, "ENFPs are outgoing, creative, with the key skill of perceiving complicated patterns and information and assimilating it quickly." I think that sums Henry up pretty well.

Rapunzel gets typed as a lot of different things and I think she fits several fairly well. One of those is ENFP, as Rapunzel is incredibly passionate and creative, as well as energetic and emotional. She also has a bit of a self sacrificing streak, which I'm seeing is a bit of a trend among fictional ENFPs. I haven't had a chance yet to see if this is true of real life ENFPs, though I bet it is.

Up next:
Madeline Hatter. Maddie is more in the Pinkie Pie vein of ENFPs in the media- she serves as a sort of goofy back up character. The best friend, not the heroine. However, in the third book, Maddie is forced to step outside of her comic relief role and do some hero work... and she accepts the challenge wonderlandifully, demonstrating that ENFP flexibility. She also has many other ENFP traits, including spontaneity, creativity, and curiosity.

Bing Bong is another ENFP sidekick turned hero of the moment. I'm starting to sense a trend. His goofy sense of humor and, ultimately, his drive to help other people cement his status as an ENFP.

Next is
Anna. I know Anna is often put as an ESFJ, but I disagree. Anna also has a nearly indestructible positive attitude and a fierce bond to the people that she cares about. My logic for N versus S is that Anna sees almost nothing but possibilities. Can she go climb that mountain? Of course! Can she get summer back? Of course! Like all ENFPs, Anna is very much a future oriented person. She's not a great judge of character (ENFPs are horrible at pretending to be Js, so here comes the P over J theory) and this leads her into a not-so-hot relationship
that doesn't stop her. I know that ENFPs aren't necessarily the most likely to decide to marry the first guy they meet, but I have a theory on that, too: Anna has lived the last 13 years alone. Hans is the first person she's ever connected with... for thirteen years. I'm willing to bet that she spent those thirteen years thinking about what it would be like to connect with somebody, specifically in a romantic way. Her centering alone time that ENFPs crave led her to the realization that she wanted a partner in life, and Hans gave her that opportunity. It wasn't a completely random decision; her main reason for looking forward to the coronation ball was the chance to meet "the one." Finally, she finds her purpose (saving Elsa from herself) and goes off and does literally everything she can do to help.
Wow, that was long. Okay.

The first time I saw
Wendy Darling typed as an ENFP, I thought the person who typed her must have been crazy. Wendy is such an introvert, right? Well, then I ended up watching Peter Pan again and realized that yes, Wendy is an ENFP. My proof: when she begins to sew Peter's shadow back to his foot, she just sits and talks away about everything that crosses her mind. She asks all sorts of questions and just goes on and on and on about, well, nothing in true ENFP fashion. Then he tells her that they're going to Neverland and she JUST KEEPS TALKING. Ah, yes, the motormouth ENFP in action. We can be rather annoying that way.
And that's a wrap! I know this isn't every single ENFP in the history of fiction (I didn't talk about Tonks or Chip or Olaf, for three of them) but these are some of my absolute favorite fictional ENFPs. If you have any comments, concerns, or questions, just leave a comment. I hope you enjoyed this!

I'm an INFJ!
ReplyDeleteIt's very interesting that you say that, because I tend to gravitate towards I__J types in day to day life (five of the closest people in my life right now are INFJ, ISTJ, or ISFJ) and I think it's super funny that I seem to find you online, too. Who'd'a thunk it? *laughs* Anyway, INFJs are probably my favorite type so yay you!! :D
DeleteI loved reading this!!! I think these are all very accurate! I'm an ENFP too. Probably a major reason I liked this. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad! Hahaha, we ENFPs have to stick together, right?
DeleteIt's really interesting and I just had to try it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a ISTJ (but ISFJ may also apply to me) so I'm completely your opposite.
Ahh another I__J! I seem to bond with a lot of IJs in life and I think it's so funny that my blog buddies are also IJs or ENFPs like me (so far!)

ReplyDeleteAccording to this you are like Jane. :)
I saw that, but I think she's an introvert. I think she's INFP, though, so it's pretty close!
