New Frozen Dolls at Toys 'R' Us

Good morning!

I was scanning the Toys 'R' Us website the other day and I noticed that two new Mattel dolls had popped up. One was the singing Anna I found leaked info about here and the other was an Elsa I'd never seen before.

I'm extremely disappointed.

What color scheme is this, exactly?

I had been considering getting this Anna, but after seeing her official pictures that won't be happening. Her "dress" is mainly molded on with the concept art design on the bodice, sleeves that don't connect to said bodice, and an ugly skirt that barely brings to mind the coronation gown.

'Cause this is Thriller, Thriller night...

Add in wonky articulation and a boring, generic hairstyle (not to mention a boring, generic face) and you get an Anna who will not be joining my army.

Obviously, you are not forced to share my opinion, so if you do want to explore this doll further, here's her link.

As for the Elsa... I was in hysterics.

Here's her link.

Meet Ice Power Elsa, the world's first projectile launching queen doll!

Love those plastic sleeves.

Continuing with Mattel's lovely new tradition of molded on bodices and ugly skirts, we have an Elsa with the power to shoot off ice and snow... sort of.

I really can't to this justice without sharing the product description:

Product Description

Fans of Disney's Frozen can channel Elsa's magical powers over ice and snow! Featuring lights and action motion, Elsa has never looked so adventurous! When you start to lift Elsa's arm, her other hand will lift and light up. Let her powers really shine by loading a snowflake into her hand, which then flies out of her arm - just like in the movie! This action will remind girls of the special moment when Elsa unleashes her powers, creating her very own ice castle out of snow and ice. She looks radiant and wintry pretty dressed in her iconic snowflake gown and crown. Includes 1 Elsa doll, 3 snowflake pieces and 1 Olaf figure. Doll cannot stand alone.

I can see several problems already. For one thing, when you load a snowflake into her hand, it sounds as though her hand will come flying out of her arm... a part of the movie I have evidently blocked because I can't remember that. Also, this Elsa doesn't look radiant... she looks like she's wearing a frumpy nightgown. Should I even mention the Olaf figure?

Whoa, Olaf, you look different!

Mattel, please stop. You're embarrassing yourself.

Okay, I know this post was a little snarky but I'm really disappointed in Mattel right now and I can get pretty sarcastic sometimes. My screen name is MyLittleMEGARA, after all. :} It is also a Monday.

    1. I have a few of the nicer Frozen ones and a recent Punz but for the most part I steer clear of recent Mattel releases. :(

  2. Oh, yes, those dolls definitely look Barbie-ish. I have a Mattel sparkle Elsa, and although I wanted the Disney one, I am happy with this one.

    1. I like the Frozen sparkle dolls (I have sparkle Anna myself) but I feel like Mattel could be doing so much better. :(

  3. Where on earth did Anna get those shoes? Oh I know! It must be a new import from Weselton. Pardon Weaseltown. Like Knockoff Elsas charming footwear.

It wasn't originally my idea, I had it from The Toybox Philosopher. :)
Elsa seems to have a few tricks up her sleeve. Or snow.
Well at least the size of that snowman is Olafish... that's at least something...
I've always hated molded tops, they can't be dressed properly. :(

    1. Anna's shoes don't bother me as much as her dress because my Color Magic Anna has the same shoes. They are fairly strange, though- Weaseltown Footwear! Hahaha!

A few tricks up her sleeve... (groan) I wish I'd thought of that!!!

Yes, it's an itty bitty Marshmallow!!!

      Ugh I know!!

  4. Oh my.. Mattel has just quit trying at all. Just as well that the license is expiring soon. *sigh*

  5. I understand completely! That's why I do not own a single Mattel doll except for my ever after high doll collection (Which is superb! :)
Those frozen dolls especially from Mattel are not the best, the ones from the Disney store are pretty good though! :)

    5. She's cute!! What's her name?

    6. She doesn't have a name yet. :)

    7. What kind of doll is she? Why doesn't she have hair? Do you want any name suggestions? Okay, I'll stop asking questions now. :D

    8. She used to be a Ghostilla doll (from a line called Twilight teens) a cheaper copy of Monster High, I think. She is fully poseable and has a really nice bodymold (in my humble opinion) She is bald because I removed her hair because it was short and thin and ugly and bad quality and not at all the color I want for her. I'll reroot her or make a wig for her at some point. She received her current face from my sister. She is actually a guinea pig, our first project remaking a doll. She will be more presentable when she gets a proper dress and some hair. :)
Name suggestions are very welcome if you have the energy to think about it. :)

    9. Her face is lovely and she makes me think of a Cassandra or a Lydia.

    10. Miss Lydia seeks your advice again and asks whitch haircolor and dresscolor would you recommend her. She loves Elsa and wishes to have the same hairstyle. And a readhead little sister, too. (I'll get that little sister sometime next week. May I ask you to be her godmother, too? :D)

    11. Well then I would recommend blonde and a blue dress! I hope you get her sister soon! What type of doll are you looking for to be Lydia's sister? I would be honored! Thank you! :)

    12. I'll go and see what is available at the store. :) I hope to get there after my exam tomorrow.

  6. Hahahaha!!! Well, maybe when you have one of Elsa's snowflakes lodged in your eye, you won't notice Anna's slave bracelets.....

    1. I don't think you'll notice much of anything when you have her snowflake in your eye!

    2. I think we have to start a blog ranting about the doll manufacturers who are currently disappointing us. Not really, but there sure is some ranting to be done!!! Maybe Hasbro will do better???

    3. Seriously!! I hope so!

  7. I forgot to mention Annas pose. It looks like she wants to pick up her... umm skirt? But for that pose a nice, wide skirt that uses lots of fabric is needed. Like the one she actually wears in the film. Imagine this Anna picking up that thing they gave her... People have been complaining that Elsas snowqueendress is not modest enough for the time she lives in. What would they say seeing this Anna picking up that green thing. I hope it's understandable what I'm trying to say. :) Maybe I'm a little harsh.
And I think it's a really unpractical pose to play with.
